Explosions on board KILO class submarine SINDHURAKSHAK in Aug 2013 - which caused the death of 18 sailors and the submarine to sink at its berth in port Mumbai - happened because “critical Standard Operating Procedures were violated” … not surprisingly a commission concluded that the boat is “no longer seaworthy” and recommends decommissioning.

• The tender for procuring 56 naval utility helicopters abroad has been scrapped … fresh acquisition process will be initiated for domestic construction (with foreign vendors allowed to partner) … new helicopters to replace ageing (30-35 year-old) Cheetah and Chetak.

Indien erneuert ja sein know how zum eigenen U-Boot Bau mit franz. (konv.) bzw. russ. (atomar) Hilfe. Das MF berichtet nun (print S. 27), Indien arbeite auch an einen außenluftunabhängigen Antrieb.
Die Entwicklung soll inzwischen so weit fortgeschritten sein, dass die neuen Antriebe in die letzten beiden der bereits bestellten sechs konv. U-Boote (franz. Typ SCORPENE, wie Brasilien), die bei der Mazagon Werft in Mumbai montiert werden, eingebaut werden könnten.
