Japan
Was Indien und Pakistan angeht, Kaschmir sagt alles darüber, was man dahingehend wissen muss.

A Japanese government official's remark to reporters that Japan should possess nuclear weapons has caused a major backlash.

The official in charge of national security at the Prime Minister's Office made the off-the-record remark on Thursday.

Noda Yoshihiko, leader of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, told reporters on Friday that it was an unbelievable thing to say. He said that while it was off the record and a personal view, it is untenable that such a person is in close contact with the prime minister and advising on security policy.

Noda added that the nation's Three Non-Nuclear Principles, which he says can be described as national policy, should be strictly maintained and that the official should resign as soon as possible.

Mimaki Toshiyuki, co-chairperson of the atomic bomb survivors group Nihon Hidankyo, said he never expected such a remark to be made.

Zitat:Over 90% of Japanese firms concerned as oil prices spike

[April 10, 2026]

A new survey shows that 43.8 percent of companies in Japan would be forced to shrink their core businesses if higher oil prices persist for six months amid the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, more than 90 percent cite negative impacts from the heightened Middle East tensions, according to the corporate survey results released by Teikoku Databank Ltd. on April 9. Companies reporting that surging crude oil prices and supply concerns would have a “negative impact” on their management accounted for 96.6 percent. More than 70 percent of the 96.6 percent companies cited “increased fuel costs for company vehicles” as the reason. [...] The survey was conducted from April 3 to April 7, covering 1,686 companies on the impact of rising oil prices and supply concerns stemming from the war in Iran and blocking off the strait.
