Iran test-fires two rounds of a missile, said to be an improved version of the RIM-66 Standard SM-1 surface-to-air missile. According to Iranian spokesman Rear Admiral Abdullah Manavi, the development of the missile—assigned the name Fajr—took almost four years. Some of the parts of the modified missile had been built by the Iranian Navy experts. The missile's electronics have been digitized, permitting the use of a frequency-agile receiver for the semi-active command guidance system. This affords greater resistance to jamming measures. The solid-fueled motors, warhead, and power cells are now being manufactured indigenously.

Iran Said to Claim Air-to-Air Arm, Associated Press, May 1

LONDON - Iran claims to have adapted U.S.-made surface-to-air missiles for air-to-air combat, a development that, if true, could substantially increase Tehran's missile inventory, Jane's Defense Weekly reported.

The weekly magazine published photos this week of an SM1 Standard missile on an Iranian F-4 Phantom II fighter bomber and a Hawk missile on an Iranian F-14 Tomcat.

Die 4 Kidd, die ebenfalls mit SM-1 ausgerüstet werden sollten, gingen ja nach der Revolution in den Dienst bei der US-Navy.
Vielleicht krieg ich noch raus, wie und wo der Iran an die SM-1 dran kam.
Glaube aber ned, dass Janes sowas veröffentlicht, wenn die Sache schon im Ansatz falsch ist.
