LONDON, May 11 (IranMania) - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani called on Iran to waive the debt owed to it by Iraq.
In an interview with the Jordanian daily ’Al-Ghad’, Talabani strongly rejected allegation of Iran meddling in Iraq’s internal affairs, IRNA reported.
“Iran like other neighboring states is concerned about the Iraqi situation. The two states have many common interests and Iran is the first nation which recognized the Iraqi interim government and praised the democratic election in the country,“ he said. He added that Iranian officials are keen on expanding friendly ties between Tehran and Baghdad.
The daily quoted him as saying that the Iraqi policy is to forge cordial relations with Tehran.

He also rejected Kurdistan’s cessation from Iraq and said Iraqi Kurds are not contemplating independence and partition.
“Like other ethnic and tribal groups, they want to coexist in a federal Iraq.“ On Iraq’s isolation in the Arab world, he said enemies are fanning the flames of discord in Iraq by spreading rumors.
He added that some media have been printing news to paint a dispirited picture of Shiites in Iraq by portraying them as Iran’s puppets.
“The Iraqi Shiites want to see an Arab leader and they are the pivotal part of Arab Shiites,“ he said.
