Under Hussein, Assyrian Christians and other minorities,though not Arab, were forced tosign national correction formsrenouncing their religions andethnicities and declaring them-selves Arab. During his father’sreign, Uday Hussein published a newspaper, Babil (Babylon), inwhich he regularly ran malicious anti-Christian articles intended to stir up hatred toward Christians.


Under Hussein, Christians were allowed to worship but were not
allowed to proselytize or publicly express their views.

Also last year Saddam’s son Uday published some virulently anti-Christian material in his newspaper Babil (meaning “Babylon”), stirring up more hatred towards Christians. There was a regular page in Babil which carried anti-Christian articles.

Documents reveal ethnic cleansing, gassing, 'Islamization' of Assyrian believers in north
Secret documents found in Iraq reveal a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing by former President Saddam Hussein against indigenous Assyrian Christians living in northern Iraq.

According to the Rev. Ken Joseph Jr., a leader in the Assyrian Christian community, the documents tell of a "decades-long pattern" of persecution and "Islamization" by Saddam.

"Entries read 'gas-Anfal,' meaning the villagers were gassed during the 'Anfal Campaign' by the Saddam government to destroy the area and 'Islamizize' and 'Arabize' it.

"Each time, we were replaced in our own villages by Muslims who had come from other parts of the country. It was a careful and organized plan to get all Christians out of northern Iraq, particularly in an area where we have the historical right to be there."

Joseph reports many of the destroyed churches were replaced with "huge Muslim mosques donated by Saudi Arabia."

Tareq Aziz, Christian Vice President, was often referred to in the West as an example of a positive situation for Christians…. Is this true?

Tareq Aziz was not the Vice Minister because he was a Christian, but because he was a long and great childhood friend of Saddam Hussein, with whom he carried out some of his first massacres in their first years working together. Aziz rose in the Iraqi political arena only because he was a friend of Saddam Hussein. I must say, as part of the Christian minority community, we often obtained concessions not from Aziz, but from other Muslim ministers. I remember, for example, the case of a school book containing offensive statements about Christianity: Aziz did nothing in light of our protests. Finally a Muslim minister ordered the book removed from school shelves. Moreover, when Tarek Aziz met the pope just before the war, his haughty behavior scandalized Christians….

btw bezueglich politischen einschaetzungen ist die seite hier genauso vertrauenswuerdig fuer mich wie fuer p janes und globalsecurity serioes sind...
inhaltliche fehler gibts zu genuege....
und nur weil zum Beispiel erich seine meinung in form eines artikels niederschreibt udn das hier auf die page stellt ist das nicht des weissheits letzten schluss ist - die seite hier wird nicht von historikern udn politologen oder militaerexperten betrieben sondern ist ein hobbyprojekt - genauso wie wikipedia.....
als quelle nur beschraenkt nutzbar...
