CAIRO [MENL] -- Egypt and Saudi Arabia have launched their annual naval exercise.
Egyptian sources said the exercise, termed Murjan-9, was being conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the sources said, Egyptian and Saudi surface vessels and aircraft held maneuvers in Saudi territorial waters.
In the second phase, the Saudi and Egyptian naval vessels moved to the Red Sea near the Egyptian coast. That phase began last week.
The Egyptian official Middle East News Agency reported that Murjan-9 would continue until Oct. 16. The agency did not specify the naval assets deployed in the exercise.
