Sistani calls on Iraqis to march

Dubai, Aug 25 - Iraq's top Shiite Muslim cleric, grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, is returning home from London and has called on Iraqis to march on Najaf to save the city, aide Hamad al-Khaffaf told al-Arabiya TV Wednesday.

"Ayatollah Sistani is going to return in a few hours to the homeland to save Najaf ... we call on all Iraqis ... to prepare to march on Najaf" to save the central Iraqi city, Khaffaf told the Dubai-based channel from London.

Najaf, one of the holiest cities in Shiite Islam, is the site of fierce fighting between militiamen loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr and US-led forces.
