Iraq attacks target Shiites, anti-Qaeda militia

BAGHDAD (AFP) – A bomb and suicide attack in Iraq killed six people on Monday, including four Shiites and the wife and daughter of an anti-Qaeda fighter, police said.

The four Shiites were killed and 17 others wounded when a suicide bomber detonated explosives in the Diyala provincial town of Baladruz, 75 kilometres (47 miles) north of Baghdad, the police said.

Suicide bomber kills 2 Shiite pilgrims in Iraq

BAGHDAD – An Iraqi official says a suicide bomber has killed two Shiite pilgrims north of Baghdad during an important religious ritual for the Muslim sect.

The ritual, known as Ashoura, marks the anniversary of the 7th century death of Imam Hussein. His death in a battle sealed Islam's historic Sunni-Shiite split.

Six police among 14 killed in Iraq suicide attacks

RAMADI, Iraq (AFP) – Suicide attacks targeting a police checkpoint and a Shiite Muslim procession in western and central Iraq killed up to 14 people on Sunday, including six policemen and a journalist.

The blast occurred at a police checkpoint in the centre of the city, 100 kilometres (60 miles) west of Baghdad, and left 41 people wounded, according to police Major Rahim Zabin and a hospital doctor.
