Das ist i. d. T. eine bemerkenswerte Entwicklung, zumal es dem Land gewisse weiterführende Handelsmöglichkeiten bieten wird. Allerdings besteht auch das Risiko von Spannungen, denn es ist zumindest zu hinterfragen, ob Somaliland (das von keinem Land außer Taiwan anerkannt wird) diese Entscheidung so hätte treffen dürfen? Am Ende entsteht über diese Entscheidung von Somaliland eine neuerliche Konfrontation zwischen Somalia und Äthiopien...

Somali Anger Over Somaliland Granting Ethiopia Access to Port

In a deal being described as "historic", landlocked Ethiopia has secured access to the Red Sea through a deal agreement with Somaliland, granting it use of the breakaway region's strategic Berbera port.

But the agreement was reported as a "surprise", and the government of Somalia has recalled its ambassador to Ethiopia, vowing to defend Somali territory by "all legal means possible". Somaliland is a region in northern Somalia which declared independence from Somalia in 1991. Somaliland's sovereignty is not globally recognised, but it has a government and elections.

Ethiopia lost direct access to the coast after Eritrea's independence in 1993, and its been reliant on Djibouti's ports.
