Russia Completes Flight Tests Of Tsirkon Hypersonic Missile

Russia has successfully completed flight tests of its advanced Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile from the Northern Fleet’s Admiral Gorshkov frigate, a source close to Russia’s Defense Ministry told TASS.

According to the source, the next Tsirkon trials are planned to begin in November and they are expected to continue in 2022. After that, the delivery of the missiles to the Russian Armed Forces will begin. [...] During the Army 2021 forum on August 24, a contract was signed with the Defense Ministry on the delivery of Tsirkon hypersonic missiles to the Russian Armed Forces. According to NPO Mashinostroeniya CEO Alexander Leonov, the contract will be fulfilled by 2025. [...] It was reported on July 19 that the Admiral Gorshkov frigate had successfully test-launched a Tsirkon hypersonic missile against a ground target. The missile flew at a speed of 7 Mach and covered a distance of more than 350 km (217 mi).

Russia's Northern Fleet Command has conducted its first two successful test launches of the 3M22 Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile from the Project 885 Yasen-class nuclear-powered guide-missile submarine Severodvinsk against targets in the Barents Sea, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 4 October. [...] “The missile was aimed at a naval target located in the Barents Sea,” the Russian MoD caption accompanying the YouTube video of the first launch said. “According to the objective-monitoring data, the flight course of the missile matched the specified parameters. The submarine-based Tsirkon missile test launch has been considered a success,” it added. Similar remarks were made of the submerged launch.
