Indien ersetzt alle INSAS Gewehre durch AK:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/05/04/india-replaces-all-insas-rifles-in-red-zones-with-aks-cites-insas-as-defective/">http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015 ... defective/</a><!-- m -->

Zitat:The troubled INSAS rifle has met yet another stumbling block. Calling the rifle “defective, the Delhi High Court questioned the Indian Ministry of Defense’s and the Home Ministry’s issuance of the rifles, late last month.

.......

The Indian Armed Forces use at least two other rifles besides the INSAS, the X-95 (a variant of the Israeli Tavor), and AK rifles in 7.62×39. In response to the High Court’s notice, the Home Ministry announced that all INSAS rifles in the Red Zone (an area in East India that experiences significant Maoist insurgent activity) would be replaced by AK rifles, while 50% of INSAS rifles in Northern Jammu and Kashmir – a region disputed by both China and Pakistan – would be replaced by AKs, as well.

.....

India’s indigenous rifle has some very serious flaws in its execution. One TFB reader elaborated on the disappointing state of his rifle – which was brand-new. The general experience with the guns has been that they are loaded with superfluous features, are not very reliable or durable, and that they are expensive. This last I cannot confirm, as prices for Indian weapons are difficult to pin down, and it does seem that any INSAS replacement will most likely be more expensive.

Stalled deal for 155mm howitzers is revived

May 14, 2015 11:42 a.m. ET NEW DELHI—India’s Defense Ministry has approved the purchase of 56 transport aircraft from Airbus Group NV in a deal valued at $1.87 billion and has given the go-ahead to a long-stalled deal to acquire howitzers from BAE Systems PLC.
...

The government on Wednesday also signed off on the purchase of 145 M777 howitzers from London-based BAE Systems, Mr. Kar said. The company has offered to build a howitzer assembly and test facility in India as part of the deal.

BAE Systems closed plants in the U.S. and U.K. involved in building the M777 amid repeated delays in the Indian deal, though units in both countries would be heavily involved in building the equipment for India. The weapon, which fires 155mm shells, is due to be used on the Indian border with Pakistan and China.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/nation/state-of-art-battle-tanks-to-replace-t-72/93913.html">http://www.tribuneindia.com/news/nation ... 93913.html</a><!-- m -->

Zitat:The Army is planning to replace its existing fleet of Soviet-origin main battle tanks, which have been in service since the mid-80s, with a family of modular armoured-fighting vehicles that would be developed in collaboration with the industry.

“The Indian Army is planning to design and develop a new generation, state-of-the-art combat vehicle platform for populating its armoured fighting vehicle fleet in the coming decade. This vehicle, which will be called the future ready combat vehicle (FRCV), will form the base platform for the main battle tank which is planned to replace the existing T-72 tanks in the Armoured Corps,” a request for information (RFI) of the Army stated.

The army envisions to begin inducting the new platforms by 2025-27. It is also planned to subsequently develop other need-based variants like bridge-layers, anti-mine trawlers, command posts, armoured ambulances, engineer vehicles, self-propelled gun platforms and recovery vehicles on this platform.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/article-3149576/Made-India-rifle-replace-INSAS-Modified-Excalibur-currently-undergoing-trials-meet-Army-requirements.html">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/indiahome/ar ... ments.html</a><!-- m -->
Zitat:The Indian Army has decided to go for an indigenous assault rifle to replace the problematic INSAS rifles.

The decision that could save thousands of crores in foreign exchange and boost local manufacture was taken recently by Army Chief General Dalbir Singh.

The Army then cancelled a problematic Rs 4,848 crore order for importing Multi Caliber Assault Rifles on June 15 — first reported by Mail Today on July 1.

Zitat:The performance of the DRDO-designed ‘Excalibur’ assault rifle in trials last month at the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune has further enthused the Army.

The Excalibur had only two stoppages (where the bullet gets stuck in the breech) after 24,000 rounds were fired, close to the Army’s specifications of only one stoppage.

New features

The Excalibur is an improved version of the INSAS rifle and fires 5.56x45 mm ammunition. It has full-automatic capability over the INSAS which can only fire a three-round burst.

The Excalibur barrel is shorter by 4 mm, has a side folding butt stock and features a Picatinny rail, a universal mount that allows a range of weapon sights and sensors to be fitted on the rifle.

DRDO officials say it will take the OFB’s Rifle Factory Ishapore at least eight months to incorporate design changes suggested by the ARDE and field the first prototypes of what they are calling the ‘Modified INSAS Rifle’ (MIR).

Changes suggested after trials include a smaller handguard and improved polycarbonate magazine.

If the Excalibur/MIR clears trials, it could be in the hands of infantry soldiers within two years, DRDO officials say.

Zitat:Indian Army may acquire 39 American Apache choppers [...]

The Indian Army is planning to pitch for acquiring a fleet of lethal Apache attack helicopters in a key meeting with Defence Minister Arun Jailtley scheduled this weekend. Highly placed sources in the Army told Mail Today that the combat helicopters for its aviation wing will enhance the firepower of its strike forces along the borders with China and Pakistan. [...]

"The Army wants the latest version of the American Apache 64D attack choppers from the US through the Foreign Military Sales case for its aviation arm," the sources said. The Army seeks to buy 39 units at a cost of more than Rs 12,000 crore. [...]

About the plan to acquire 39 choppers, the sources said the choppers would be divided into three squadrons of 10 each and would be deployed along both the China and Pakistan with the Strike Corps. The Army is in the process of modernising its chopper fleet as it is leading the acquisition process for procuring 200 Kamov light choppers for itself and the Air Force to replace its fleet of vintage Cheetah and Chetak helicopters for operations in high-altitude military bases.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_Light_...Helicopter

Zitat:The helicopter has been designed to fit into an anti-infantry and anti-armour role. It can therefore take off from an altitude of 10,000 feet, operate weapons up to 16,300 feet, and engage targets like UAVs that are flying at altitudes of up to 21,300 feet.

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-c...203-b.jpeg

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020...an-ak-203/

Zitat:The reasons for these design specification changes are unclear, perhaps for manufacturing simplicity, or cost saving or perhaps the changes are driven by doctrine or manual of arms driven choices. Regardless of the changes made to the rifle, the AK-203 represents a step up, from the current INSAS, which Indian soldiers will welcome enthusiastically.

https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020...ed-forces/

Zitat:India and Russia media reports suggest that the deal for India to procure and produce the AK-203 rifle has been agreed upon. The deal will provide the Indian Armed Forces with a much needed new service rifle.

Indian and Russian media reports over the last 24 hours have stated that the deal to establish indigenous licensed production in Uttar Pradesh has been agreed during Indian defence minister Rajnath Singh’s ongoing visit to Moscow. 100,000 rifles will be imported from Russia while the remaining 670,000 will be produced under license in India, in line with the Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ policy.

Zitat:India approves procurement of additional Dhruv helicopters

India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved the Indian Army's procurement of an additional 25 Dhruv Mk III Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs) for INR38.5 billion (USD518 million).

The approval was announced by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in New Delhi on 29 September alongside the acquisition of munitions and other unspecified defence items. The total value of these procurements is INR131.65 billion, with 87% of this sourced from local industry, the MoD said. [...] The army operates both utility and armed versions of the helicopter, which is produced by state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The company has provided about 80 utility platforms to the Indian Army's Army Aviation Corps (AAC) since 2011.
