Sowohl für Hydef als auch für Aquila/Hydis2 werden Ramjet Booster-Stufen in Erwägung gezogen. Bei beiden Projekten scheint diese Lösung aber nicht die erste Wahl zu sein.

Aus den oben genannten Anforderungsanalysen ist das Flugkörperkonzept IRIS-T HYDEF mit Oberstufe entstanden, in welchem der modulare Systemansatz der IRIS-T-Familie von Diehl Defence fortgeführt wird. Dabei wird auch eine flexible Anpassung an die verschiedenen Unterstufen des IRIS-T HYDEF-Flugkörpers ermöglicht, um im Antriebsbereich offen für Kooperationen zu sein.

Eines der Konzeptbilder zeigt eine luftatmende Unterstufe. Diehl scheint sich aber auf die Oberstufe zu konzentrieren. Für den Antrieb könnte im Hydef-Team Nammo zuständig sein. Ein SFRJ wäre also möglich. Aber:

Hinsichtlich der Reduzierung von Entwicklungskosten und -zeit ist vorgesehen, auf eine bereits verfügbare Booster-Lösung aufzubauen.

HYDIS2 is entering the concept phase with “three multistage interceptor architectures,” Rainer Stockhammer, MBDA’s team leader for Twister, tells journalists on the second day of the Paris Air Show here. Two of the architectures to be studied are three-stage, one of which is air-breathing—possibly a ramjet like the Meteor air-to-air missile. The second is a conventional rocket-powered missile with a large booster, while the third is a two-stage weapon with booster. The program will examine and select one of these options for further development at the end of the study.

Im MBDA-Team würde die Entwicklung eines Ramjet Boosters wohl Bayern-Chemie zufallen.

Bayern-Chemie hat sich offensichtlich auch irgendwann über die Nutzung von Meteor als SAM Gedanken gemacht:

An air defence variant could be easily derived from a BVRAAM missile like Meteor. Such a derivative could feature both performance improvement and design simplification (cost reduction). With a design for container launch, the hangers for aircraft carriage could be eliminated leading to a substantial reduction of the missile drag. This would give an over proportional range improvement due to lower thrust demand and a shift of the TDR operation into fuel lean regimes with enhanced specific impulse.
The integrated booster of a BVRAAM is sized for minimum launch speed of the aircraft and therefore, for ground launch, a relatively simple tandem boost motor would be needed (Fig. 16). A tandem booster with a moderate thrust level combined with a substantial burn time would lead to a 1st stage burnout at appr. M 1.6 in 3500 m altitude. Subsequent operation of the integral booster would result in transition at M > 2.5 in > 4000 m of altitude, enabling ample acceleration capability of the TDR. The tandem booster for a BVRAAM ( diam. . ~ 178mm) as shown in Fig. 17 has a diam. ~ 330 mm and a length ~ 1.1 m including adapter / conical section (about 25°).
