Zitat:Pakistan to buy missiles from Ukraine

By Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW, NOV. 8. Pakistan may buy a large consignment of airborne missiles from Ukraine, a Ukrainian defence industry official was quoted as saying.

The head of a missile-building factory in Ukraine said that his company was about to sign a major contract with Pakistan.

The deal "will keep the factory busy for several years," the Itar-Tass news agency quoted Mr. Alexander Kachura, president of the Artyom state holding company, as saying, during a visit to the factory of the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Viktor Yanukovich, last week.

Artyom is a leading manufacturer of air-to-air guided missiles for MiG and Sukhoi aircraft in the former Soviet Union.

Zitat:Pakistan acquiring new fighter jets
By UNITED PRESS INTERNATIONAL
Published March 9, 2005

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistan is set to induct by June next year the first squadron of supersonic fighter planes it made jointly with China, officials said.

Pakistan began to work on the state-of-the-art JF-17 Thunder along with China in the early 1990s, when the United States banned arms supplies to Islamabad following a difference over its nuclear program.

Pakistani defense officials told United Press International the first batch of six planes would be handed over to the Pakistan Air Force by June 2006.

Eventually, the air force will have 150 F-17 jet fighters, the officials said, but did not elaborate how long it would take to acquire all the planes.

The first test flight of the supersonic jet was successfully conducted in September 2003 in China. The prototype is expected to be finished within a couple of months.

The planes have been equipped with latest avionics, which are also developed jointly by China and Pakistan. China Air Force is likely to induct more than 500 JF-17 fighter planes in the future.

Zitat:Pakistani Women to Fly Fighter Jets

ISLAMABAD, May 11, 2005 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) – Masculinity is no longer a condition to be a fighter pilot in the Muslim world as Pakistan has allowed women to enroll at its Air Force Academy.

A newspaper advertisement seeking female cadets has stricken a responsive chord with many female pilot hopefuls, the BBC News Online reported Tuesday, May 10.

There are now 10 women in two batches in the flying wing of the academy with many more competing with men in the engineering and aerospace wing.

The head of the onetime male-dominated Pakistani Air Force Academy, Air Vice Marshal Inam Ullah Khan, told the BBC that the female cadets have done better than expected.

Zitat:Pakistan may buy US, Chinese and Soviet planes

By Muhammad Saleh Zaafir

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to purchase state-of-the-art Chinese F-10 (Jian-10) multi-role fighter-cum-bomber planes while the decision pertaining to purchase of US made ultra modern F-16 planes would be made in July next.

Meanwhile Moscow has signalled to Pakistan that like the US, it could also de-hyphenate its ties with Pakistan and India. As a result of this change in thinking, Pakistan could also go for Russian made planes for the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Zitat:Pakistan approves purchase of Lockheed Martin F-16s and Chengdu FC-1 fighters

Pakistan’s cabinet has approved the purchase of Lockheed Martin F-16s from the USA and Chengdu FC-1 fighters from China. Reports from Islamabad say the government has given the go-ahead for the $3 billion purchase of 77 F-16s in a mix of new C/D models and used A/Bs.

Pakistan submitted a letter of request for 55 new F-16s, plus 20 options, in April last year, but withdrew it in November in the wake of a catastrophic hurricane. A new letter of request will now be submitted, and a contract is expected to be signed in 2007.
