Die Suche nach dem verschwundenen argentinischen U-Boot San Juan blieb bislang ergebnislos. Boot und Besatzung sind aktuell verschollen. Nachdem bereits im Dezember sowohl die USA als auch Argentinien selbst die Suche nach dem Boot eingestellt hatten, haben Angehörige und Aktivisten nun eine Crowdfunding-Aktion gestartet, um der Suche neuen Schwung geben zu können. Zuvor hatte bereits die argentinische Regierung eine Belohnung ausgelobt für Hinweise, die zur Klärung des Schicksals des Bootes beitragen könnten.

Relatives of the 44 crew members of a lost Argentine submarine have begun raising funds to search for it privately.
The navy called off its rescue mission for the ARA San Juan in December, two weeks after it went missing. Relatives have opened an account and asked for the public to donate. No trace of the vessel has been found despite extensive searching underwater and by air. All those who were on board are presumed dead. More than a dozen countries helped with the official search and 4,000 personnel were deployed. Earlier this month the Argentine government announced it would offer $4.9m (£3.5m) for information that led to the submarine being found. [...]
The Argentine navy's last contact with the vessel was at approximately 07:30 (10:30 GMT) on 15 November 2017, at which point its captain reportedly confirmed that the crew were well.
