Updated: 2013-01-16 18:54:00 JAKARTA, January 16 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian government procured three multi-role light naval ships from the United Kingdom (UK) in a bid to modernize its navy fleet.
Indonesia's intention to purchase the ships was conveyed by Indonesian Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro on the sidelines of his meeting with his UK counterpart Philip Hammond here on Wednesday.
"The agreement on the purchase of those ships was conducted on transfer-of-technology basis so as to enable Indonesia in producing that kind of ships in the future," Purnomo said as quoted by the Antara news service, adding that a team would be sent to UK to undertake examine and further study the ship's specification.
