RUSSIA SEEKS SALE OF LETHAL SYSTEMS TO SAUDI


ABU DHABI [MENL] - Russia has been negotiating with Saudi Arabia for the sale of lethal systems to the Arab kingdom.

Russian officials and defense sources said Moscow and Riyad have been discussing a range of Russian weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. They said the talks include the sale of main battle tanks, air defense systems and aircraft.

In 2004, Russia launched military and security cooperation with Saudi Arabia. So far, Russia's Kamaz has sold heavy military trucks to Saudi Arabia and the sources said the first delivery has already taken place.

"We don't have any contracts [of lethal systems] so far," Rosoboronexport official Nikoklai Dimidyuk said. "We surely have hopes. How the process will continue is hard to say."
