China cannot launch full-scale attack against Taiwan in the near future - expert

XIANG GANG (Hong Kong), July 20 (RIA Novosti, Mark Zavadsky) -

China will not be able to conduct a full-scale military operation against Taiwan in the near future, military expert Andrew Chan of the Hong Kong-based KANWA analytical center told RIA Novosti, commenting on the 2005 Chinese Military Power report posted on the Pentagon website Tuesday.

The report suggests that the modernization of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) might allow China to conduct various military operations in Asia, expanding the scale of such operations way beyond Taiwan and, therefore, creating a potential threat to other countries in the region.

At the same time, Pentagon experts say at present China does not possess enough forces to conduct a full-scale military operation against Taiwan. Chan said China, indeed, does not have enough large ships to ensure the transport of its land forces across the Bay of Taiwan and its troops lack the training for such an operation.

der Poster macht dazu noch folgende Anmerlungen:

Ich stimme allerdings mit dem KANWA-Analysten nicht so ganz überein.
+ Sicher reicht die amphibische Liftkapazität der PLAN nicht aus, ganz
Taiwan sofort zu besetzen. Aber für einen Brückenkopf müsste es langen. Bei
den relativ geringen Entfernungen - und der Möglichkeit über die ja
angesprochene "Barrage" die Verteidiger zu blockieren, kann man dann aber
gut mehrfach hin- und her fahren.
+ Außerdem lassen sich bei "reduzierter Bedrohung" gut auch tausende kleiner
und kleinster ziviler Fahrzeuge oder solche der paramilitärischen Maritime
Security Forces nutzen. Der KANWA-Analyst sollte sich nur mal anschauen, was da 1944 so alles über den Kanal geschwommen ist.
+ Dass den Chinesen schließlich die "Übung" fehlen soll, kann ich nun
überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen. Genau dieses Szenario wird ja seit Jahren
sehr ausgiebig geprobt.
+ und im letzten Satz kommt dann der eigentliche Widerspruch. 2010 sollen
die Chinesen das nämlich alles können. Kein Mensch redet doch davon, dass
die übermorgen angreifen....
