Secret arrests as Dutch terror threat 'worse than thought'

AMSTERDAM — The Netherlands is facing a far larger and more organised threat from Islamic terrorists than previously thought, it was reported Tuesday. One source said the Dutch authorities are conducting at least 15 investigations into planned attacks.
A day after news broke on Monday that Dutch police investigating Islamic terrorism had arrested four people in July, newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD) said more terrorist suspects had been arrested than previously revealed.
One of the investigations is focusing on suspects who were allegedly planning a bomb attack on a hotel and another involved a planned attack against prominent Dutch politicians.

Islamists will meet to respond to `American Zionist terror'

BERLIN - (KRT) - German officials are growing concerned about a conference for Arabs and Muslims on "American Zionist terror" that looks like it will go ahead as planned in Berlin, despite calls for its cancellation by a prominent Jewish organization.
The conference, scheduled for Oct. 1-3, is expected to attract as many as 500 Islamists from around the world to form "a unified response" to the American presence in Iraq and to Israel's existence, according to promotional literature for the First Arab, Islamic Congress in Europe.

He added that German officials are scrambling to figure out what they can do, if anything, about the congress.
"If their agenda included bombing the Reichstag, we could stop them. But unless there's evidence of a crime, there's little we can do."
