Lech Walesa has left the Solidarity trade union movement he founded and led during its struggle against communism in the 1980s.
Mr Walesa said he would not attend the ceremonies to mark the 26th anniversary of Solidarity later this month.

Damit wird die Symbolfigur des polnischen Widerstandes gegen die Sowjetunion in den 80ern, der den Zusammenbruch des Ostblocks durchaus mit beeinflußte, wenn nicht gar einleitete, in innenpolitischen Grabenkämpfen abgeschossen. Zumindest im Umkehrschluß.
