Iran's President lets CNN back in after apology

LONDON, January 17 (IranMania) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has allowed CNN to resume operating in the country after the American cable news network apologised for mistakenly quoting him saying Tehran was seeking nuclear weapons, state radio reported Tuesday.

According to AFP, during CNN's live translation of a press conference by Ahmadinejad Saturday, the president was quoted as saying that "we believe all nations are allowed to have nuclear weapons" and that the West should not "deprive us to have nuclear weapons".

The president was, however, using a Farsi word that meant "technology" and not "weapons".

China to become Iran's primary trade partner

LONDON, January 17 (IranMania) - The Chinese Ambassador to Tehran said that the trade between Iran and China exceeds $10 bln and China is to become Iran's primary trade partner in the near future, IRNA reported.

Speaking at Iran, China economic gathering Lio G Tan said that Iran and China trade registered record high last year.

"China imported over $1bln of non-oil goods from Iran in 2004 and the figure doubled in 2005."
China's imports of non-oil goods from Iran is among the highest of non-oil exports from Iran, he said.

Iraqi border policemen seized by Iranians

LONDON, January 17 (IranMania) - Eight Iraqi border policemen have been detained by Iranian forces after a clash on the southern river frontier in which one Iraqi was wounded, the regional border force commander said Tuesday, AFP reported.

The clash on the Shatt Al-Arab river, 45 kilometers (27 miles) south of Basra, occurred Saturday when Iraqi border guards boarded a barge smuggling fuel to Iran, Brigadier-General Abbas Mussawi told AFP.

Iranian speedboats then arrived on the scene and opened fire, wounding one Iraqi guard. The entire Iraqi patrol, including an officer, was then detained and taken across the border to Iran, Mussawi said.
