Naja, Dein Vetrauen in die israelische Technik (auch gerade im Bereich Radar) ist durchaus begründet, dennoch tut man sich faktisch derzeit noch sehr schwer mit solchen UAV's

How Could It Happen?

While the Israeli sources were quick to downplay the strategic significance of the brief overflight, all conceded the intrusion into Israeli airspace was a major embarrassment to Israel as well as a tremendous coup for Hizbollah.

The feelings were particularly acute within the Israel Air Force, which prides itself on holding total air superiority over Israel and surrounding areas.

“For this aircraft to have flown undetected for several minutes across our border is a grave error,” Ben-Eliahu said.

He said that Air Force and Israel Defense Force experts were investigating how the UAV evaded Israel’s extensive air defense sensor network.

“My personal assessment is that this was a matter of insufficient attention. There was the element of surprise, and special attention was not directed to that niche category, with its low signature and low speed, flying in that specific sector at that specific time.”

Ben-Eliahu said the relatively primitive UAV had little of the logistical support infrastructure that could be easily spotted by the Israeli surveillance systems.

“If it was even a moderately sophisticated system, they would have to expose all their infrastructure to us,” Ben-Eliahu said.

Matan Vilnai, a prominent Israeli parliamentarian and former IDF deputy commander, said it would not take long for Israel to tune its system to detect such UAVs.

“It could require new technologies, but primarily it’s a matter of adapting procedures to account for the introduction of this new threat,” Vilnai said.
