NICOSIA [MENL] -- Iran has begun to display three British Navy vessels captured in the Shatt Al Arab waterway near Iraq.
The fast patrol boats were captured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in June 2004 along with six British Royal Marines and two Royal Navy commandos. The British nationals were released after three days, but the vessels were kept.
The British boats have been displayed in an exhibition entitled "A Plot of Paradise" off the Shatt Al Arab coast in western Iran. Authorities said the exhibition would last until April 4.
Iran said the British vessels had violated Iranian territorial waters.For its part, the British Foreign Office said the naval personnel violated Iranian waters during a mission to deliver a boat to the new Iraqi Navy.
