Zitat:LONDON [MENL] -- Iran has advanced in a project to develop a military version of the Antonov air transport.
Iranian sources said the Defense Ministry has invested in the development of at least two versions of the An-140 cargo aircraft. They said one version would be for the navy and the other for the air force.
The project was being conducted by the state-owned Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries in cooperation with Ukraine. Ukraine has helped establish an Iranian An-140 passenger aircraft production line under license with Antonov. The project has been hampered by technical difficulties.
The sources said the Iranian Defense Ministry has developed an An-140 for use as a maritime patrol craft. They said the aircraft would be powered by the Motor-Sich TV7-117VMA turboprop engine, produced in Iran under license.
