Bucak will be killed?
CUMHURIYET interviewed a member of DYP Sanliurfa Deputy Bucak's family who implied that the so-called "mafia-police-politician triangle" went "all the way to Cankaya (where the presidential palace is)." He believes that there is a plan to have Bucak assassinated and to mount a cover up of the situation. The pro-government ethnic Kurds of the Bucak clan form the bulk of the village guards who, armed and salaried by the state, fight against the PKK in the Southeast. Bucak was the sole survivor of the mysterious crash in Susurluk.

Erez: 'At least two gangs in the state'
YENIYUZYIL quoted Industry Minister Yalim Erez as saying that it seemed that there were at least two gangs organized within the state, gangs fighting with one another. Upset about allegations that some of his distant relatives had been engaged in heroin smuggling, Erez, a member of the True Path Party wing of the coalition government, said that he had told Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, "Let us not deceive ourselves. This issue must definitely be brought to light. If we can not solve it we can not govern." That was a bitter admission on the part of Erez, a message along the lines of, "If we prove incapable of solving the gangs problem let us step down."

PM comments on the 'gangs'
MILLIYET quoted Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan as saying, "There can be no bodies outside the state authority. If any such (state) gangs exist I will disband them. There can be no unlawful thing, no state secret. No one could cover up any such incident. If one (state department) covered it up another would unveil it. We are having it (the Susurluk incident) investigated with a three-pronged probe." For the first time speaking in detail about the Susurluk incident, the prime minister stressed that the fight against the outlawed PKK could not be an excuse to form gangs within the state
