BAE SYSTEMS Signs International Agreement With MiKES of Turkey

NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2004--BAE Systems North America recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with MiKES, Inc., Ankara, Turkey, for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program.

The agreement, signed in September, with MiKES (Mikrodalga Elektronic Sistemler Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S.), is the fourth MOA this year furthering BAE Systems' commitment to involve the international partners of the JSF program. Each MOA establishes an industrial relationship with one supplier for each country.

BAE Systems Information & Electronic Warfare Systems has overall responsibility for the JSF Electronic Warfare system integration.

EW suite for TAF helicopters

The Turkish SSM Undersecretariat for Defence Industries has awarded a US$576 million contract to local electronics company Aselsan, for the design and production within seven years of a Helicopter Electronic Warfare Suite (HEWS) for the Turkish Armed Forces.

This follows the cancellation by SSM of the international competition for parts of the nation’s HEWS project, in a bid to boost domestic production.

Aselsan has announced that it will design and build 285 radar warning receivers, 191 radio frequency jammers, 283 laser warning receivers and 285 central processing units for the EW suite.

Four-and-a-half years have been planned for system design, followed by two-and -a-half years for production of HEWS.

Two elements of the original HEWS competition have not been cancelled – the Counter Measures Dispensing System (CMDS) and the Missile Warning System, both of which include Aselsan and foreign partners. The number of helicopters to be outfitted with these last two elements has, however, been reduced from 300 to 178, excluding any options.
