Computer discs seized in Britain may trigger new security alerts: report
NEW YORK (AFP) - US officials may issue new public safety alerts based on information contained in more than 1,000 computer discs seized during the arrests of suspected Al-Qaeda operatives in Britain last week, a newspaper reported.
US and British intelligence officials are analyzing the content of the discs, which "appear to contain evidence of previously unknown terrorist planning activities in the United States," the New York Times said, citing an unnamed senior US intelligence official.

Bin Laden hints major assassination

U.S. intelligence officials say a high-profile political assassination, triggered by the public release of a new message from Osama bin Laden, will lead off the next major al Qaeda terrorist attack, The Washington Times has learned.
The assassination plan is among new details of al Qaeda plots disclosed by U.S. officials familiar with intelligence reports who, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the killing could be carried out against a U.S. or foreign leader either in the United States or abroad.

LAHORE: “Suicide bombers represent the real Ummah,” Jamaat-e-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed declared in his presidential address at the launch of the Urdu translation of Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammed’s book ‘A new deal for Asia’ on Sunday at a local hotel.

The JI chief said the Ummah was not represented by kings and dictators, but was ‘in the heart beat of every Muslim’. “The Ummah are the people who sacrifice their lives,” he said.

Pakistani arrested with videos of Southern cities
Tapes included scenes from Georgia, Texas, Louisiana

(CNN) -- A Pakistani citizen who was arrested while videotaping buildings in Charlotte, North Carolina, was charged with federal immigration violations, authorities announced Tuesday.

Kamran Shaikh -- also known as Kamran Akhtar -- was carrying videotapes of other Southern cities, according to an affidavit signed by U.S. Immigrations and Customs agent John Sherrill.
Those videos included images of Mansfield Dam in Austin, Texas; the MARTA transit system in Atlanta, Georgia; the Downtown Transit Center and Downtown Metro Trolley in Houston, Texas; and trolley cars in Dallas and New Orleans, Louisiana, the affidavit said.
