Zitat:LONDON, July 12 (IranMania) - Iran will cancel all contracts to lease Tupolev aircraft by March2005 , Moj news agency reported..
Quoting a report by the Public Relations Office of the Ministry of Roads and Transportation, it said that 17 leased Tupolev aircraft are operating in Iran, of which 12 will soon be taken out of service as their contracts have run out.
Contracts for the remaining five will be cancelled by March and they will be taken out of service together with three over-28-year-old Boeing 737 passenger planes, it added.
The report noted that some 88 airplane purchase plans were finalized in the past 30 months, leading to the conclusion of several contracts for the purchase of 44 aircraft.
Since the second half of the year to March2003 , some 21 aircraft have been delivered and are now in operation. Several Russian-made Tupolev aircraft have crashed in Iran during the past two decades, causing many fatalities.
Early in the year a plane carrying the then Minister of road and transportation and a number of parliamentarians crashed into forest areas in northern Iran killing all on board.
Air Tours Airlines announced later that the company would no longer use the Tupolev airliners in its flights and the Tupolev aircraft would be omitted from the air tours fleet. According to aircraft specialists the suitable age for flying planes is normally between 35 to45 .
Iran has had to use Russian planes due to the US embargo, which has created problems for the aviation industry. Iran has not been able to overhaul its aging Boeing fleet in recent years due to US sanctions.

Flight International weekly notes: after the transport minister of Iran agreed to purchase 20 TU-204-100 passenger liners, Iran has turned into the biggest partner of Russian enterprise. The mentioned planes will be produced on Aviastar-JV factory /located in Uliyanovsk/ and are to substitute Tu-154 ones being exploited nowadays by the series of Iranian companies. However the delivery contract for the new models hasn't been signed up yet they suppose to start deliveries in 2004 already to complete the contract within 4 coming years. By the way, USA has put an embargo on Iran and that's why not a single country expressed its readiness and an initiative to sell planes to Iran but for RF. As to the mentioned Tu-204-100, these machines are 210 passengers capable able to cover 4,440 km distance. As to some other advantages of cooperation with RF is that the last is able to create and build the technical support base right there in Iran and on the other hand Iranian industry can possible participate in details and part producing. However and certainly all these aspects should be determined inappropriate contracts and documents. Iran.ru
