Khatami: Iran not for stopping cooperation with IAEA and EU
Tehran, June 16, IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami said on Wednesday
that Iran has not made a decision to discontinue cooperation with
Europe and the nuclear watchdog.
Speaking to domestic and foreign reporters, the president added
that as a signatory of the additional protocol to the nuclear
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has abided by it and will
continue cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency
"We complied with the terms of the protocol as example of good
understanding and suspended the process of uranium enrichment
voluntarily.
"Despite the fact that EU trio had undertaken to facilitate
transfer of nuclear technology to Iran and cooperate closely at
regional and bilateral levels, they have not kept with their pledges
on various pretexts," he added.
The chief executive hoped that the Europeans would comply with
their undertakings with respect to Iran`s nuclear program to prove
that they act independently.
Stressing that Iran will not accept a resolution ignoring Iran`s
legitimate right to acquire technology for peaceful application of
nuclear energy, he hoped that Board of Governors would not pass such
resolution.

Majlis security commission to study Iran`s cooperation with IAEA
Tehran, June 16, IRNA -- Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy
Commission is scheduled to draw up plan for Iranian cooperation with
UN nuclear watchdog, it was announced here Wednesday.
The commission will study process of Iran-IAEA cooperation to
provide a report to the Majlis and other concerned organizations,
member of the commission told IRNA.
He said, "Representatives in the 7th Majlis have started studying
the additional protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) two
months ago and have been involved to draft a report in this respect."
He said that outcome of the expert-level scrutiny and
investigation of the case will be raised and discussed at the first
official session of the National Security and Foreign Policy
Commission of Majlis.
He said that the report will be submitted to Majlis and related
organizations after final approval by the commission.
The fair and legal attitude of the IAEA to Iran as well as
recognition of Iran`s right to utilize peaceful nuclear power are the
key factors that will affect future cooperation of Iran and the
nuclear agency, he added.
"The Majlis commission will consider the IAEA`s attitude to Iran
while preparing its report."
