Iranian defense minister back from Poland
Tehran, April 17, IRNA -- Iranian Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani
arrived in Tehran Saturday morning from a three-day official visit
to Poland. His visit was upon the invitation of his Polish
counterpart, Jerzy Szmajdzinski.
Talking to reporters at the airport upon his arrival, he said
talks between Iran and Poland on security and defense issues proved to
be the decisive factors in the role played by the two countries in
establishing peace and stability in the region.
Shamkhani said that while in Poland he had meetings with the
Polish president, defense minister and secretary for national
security, adding that in their talks he highlighted Poland`s
important role as the commander of multi-national forces in Iraq and
also as a country which is to join the European Union in the near
future.
He said both countries share the view that the United Nations
should exercise a more pro-active role in Iraq and that power should
be transferred soonest to representatives freely elected by the Iraqi
people.
