Turkish MoD’s MKE Opens Ammunition Assembly Line In Mongolia
MKE A.Ş. inaugurated its newly established cartridge and filling assembly line in Mongolia, marking its second overseas facility after Jordan. The plant will produce Soviet-calibre ammunition compatible with Mongolia’s existing small arms inventory.
MKE has completed the installation of its cartridge and filling assembly line in Mongolia, officially opened with the participation of Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler, Mongolian Minister of Defence Damda Batlut and MKE A.Ş. General Manager İlhami Keleş.
In a company statement, MKE said, “After establishing a cartridge line in Jordan, MKE continues to contribute to regional security and economic cooperation with assembly and production line projects in eight other countries.”
According to previous project documents reported by Janes, the Mongolian facility has an estimated annual capacity of around 10 million cartridges. The plant will manufacture 9×18 mm Makarov pistol rounds, 7.62×39 mm intermediate rifle ammunition and 7.62×54 mmR sniper and machine-gun cartridges — all compatible with Mongolia’s Soviet-era weapon systems such as AK, PK and SVD families.
Local reports noted that production has already begun to meet domestic defence needs.
