TUSAŞ to Deliver ANKA-S to Indonesia by October 2025 TurDef
Indonesian Air Force will receive Anka-S UAVs from TUSAS and deploy them in Air Squadron 52 at Raden Sadjad Air Force Base, Natuna, replacing the CH-4.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) is investing in unmanned aerial vehicles to enhance its beyond-visual-range (BVR) aerial warfare capabilities.
On April 22, during the 78th-anniversary celebration of the Indonesian Air Force, Air Marshal Mohammad Tonny Harjono, the chief of TNI AU, stated that Indonesia’s objective aligns with Turkiye’s advancing techno-military concept aimed at pioneering anti-air warfare utilising UAVs. Harjono stated, “The unmanned aircraft will employ satellite technology to facilitate beyond-visual-range (BVR) or long-range aerial combat.”
2019 Indonesia procured six CH-4Bs from the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). Their operational radius ranges from 1,500 km to 2,000 km and can be controlled through SatCom.
Indonesia has later armed the UACS with Chinese-made AR-2 air-to-surface precision-guided ammunition with 1.5-8 km range. Indonesia deployed CH-4B UAVs at Air Squadron 52 at Raden Sadjad Air Force Base, Natuna.
Air Marshal Harjono has recently met with local media to evaluate the year 2024 and to discuss plans and said, “With the arrival of the Turkish-made Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), it is planned to be placed in Natuna to replace the CH-4, and the CH-4 will be withdrawn to Pontianak”.
In February 2023, the Indonesian Defence Ministry ordered 12 Anka-S UAVs under a contract worth $300 million.
The Anka-s UAVs are expected to be delivered before October 2025. PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) will produce half a dozen UAVs domestically as part of a transfer of technology (ToT) agreement.
