The EMPAR, multi-functional, G-band surveillance radar is able to detect and track targets and inform the missile guidance system simultaneously due to the use of Phased Array technology and electronic beam scanning. EMPAR is the primary sensor of the PAAMS (FR/IT) missile system.

This EMPAR has been assigned to SESDA (Station d’Essais des Systemes de Defence Aerienne) in Toulon for the integration tests of the Fire Control System based on the EMPAR (FCS-E). By the end of 2004, the entire FCS-E system, including the EMPAR radar, will be made available to the Horizon Frigate Programme.
