INDIA
• Nearly four months after submarine SINDHURAKSHAK sank in port Mumbai, navy divers are still looking for bodies of missing sailors in the wreckage … with regards to salvage operations, bids received from three shortlisted companies “are being examined”.
• The Indian navy has drawn up plans to give life-extension refit to six of its ageing submarines … four KILO class, two SHISHUMAR class … media report suggests two KILO class to be sent to Russian Zvezdochka (contract “imminent”), work on the remainder two to be conducted in Visakhapatnam (with Russian assistance) … the two SHISHUMAR to be overhauled/upgraded by Mazagon (Mumbai).
• The government is “in the process” of buying two more submarine rescue vessels.
