- •MoD press statement: “Initial assessments indicate that an internal explosion occurred in the forward compartment of the submarine, where ordnance was stored, resulting in further near-simultaneous explosions, and a major fire … a minor fire was also observed on the upper casing of submarine SINDHUGOSH (rmks: initial media reports had named SINDHURATNA), which was berthed alongside SINDHURAKSHAK … attempts to de-water flooded compartments with high capacity pumps brought no change to the water level inside the sunken submarine, indicating major structural damage.”
•The Indian navy has ordered an “audit of standard operating procedures” on its submarine fleet and “checks on the weapon-related safety systems”.
