Update SINDHURAKSHAK: Divers have been able to enter the sunken submarine and recover the bodies of the first two of 18 crew members (all presumed dead); Russian experts to help in investigation to establish still unknown cause of explosion. Dutch company reportedly to be hired to support salvage operation, but subsequent repairs “unlikely”.
(rmks: speculations rife on possible cause. Charging cable seen on the pier next to the boat suggest she was in the process of charging her batteries – which could indicate hydrogen explosion; local media claim “debris of missiles and booster found at the scene” suggest explosion of weapons. The latter, however, could also have been secondary explosions).
