Arctic offshore vessel Vitus Bering has left on sea trial for one week 22 November.

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard is building two identical offshore icebreaking supply vessels for Russias largest shipping group Sovcomflot (SCF Group). The first vessel of the serial, Vitus Bering, will be delivered to the client four months in advance, 18 December 2012.

The Vitus Bering supply ship, which will operate on a long-term loan to a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, was built by Finland’s Arctech Helsinki Shipyard and Russia’s Vyborg Shipyard JSC, and accepted for operation in December last year.

Insofern hat die "Viktor Bering" wohl nicht selbst "Geleit gefahren" sondern wurde geleitet. Da muss ich mich wohl korrigieren.
Dass die Russen mit dem neuen Schiff nicht die Arktis-Route sondern den längeren Seeweg durch den indischen Ozean gewählt haben, mag mit den derzeitigen Bedingungen im Nordmeer zu tun haben, dem man das neue Schiff nicht aussetzen wollte.
