Joaquin Quintas, an official with the Cuban Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias (FAR) announced this week that China and Cuba will be strengthening their bilateral defence cooperation.

Although China is currently Cuba’s second largest trade partner (after Venezuela), the Asian giant has so far limited its defence cooperation with the island nation. However, recently the local defence experts had claimed that China may offer military support and aid to Cuba, as a response to the growing American military presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
