Destroyer PORTER collides with Japanese (Panama-flagged) tanker OTOWASAN, nearly loaded to capacity (2 million barrels) … near the Strait of Hormuz (rmks: probably at northern entrance, as tanker was “heading into the strait toward the Gulf of Oman”) … no injuries … no report of oil spill or leakages … collision left a breach about 10 feet by 10 feet in the starboard side of PORTER, but she could proceed under own power to Jebel Ali (UAE).
