Der Artikel bezieht sich auf Zahlen, die von FBI und Europol stammen und deren Berichte darin auch verlinkt sind. Die Erhebung erfolgte durch Europol/FBI selbst nach ihrer Terror-Definition.
So heisst es im TE-SAT Report von Europol:
"Terrorists aim at intimidating the people, compelling states to comply with their demands, or destabilising or destroying the fundamental political, constitutional, economic or social structures of a country or an oganisation. Terrorism is the attempt to achieve political goals with the use or the threat of violence.

Islamist terrorism is still perceived as being the biggest threat worldwide, despite the fact that the EU only faced one Islamist terrorist attack in 2008. This bomb attack took place in the UK.

Separatist terrorism remains the terrorism area which affects the EU most. This includes Basque separatist terrorism in Spain and France, and
Corsican separatist terrorism in France.The number of separatist terrorist attacks decreased from 532 in 2007 to 397 in 2008, a figure that is comparable comparable to 2006. The vast majority of these terrorist
attacks were executed in France and Spain.

The total number of left-wing terrorist attacks in the EU has risen in 2008. Left-wing and anarchist groups were responsible for 28 attacks; 58 individuals were arrested during 2008.

-> Demzufolge halte ich fest, dass die tatsächliche Bedrohung die durch islamistischen Terror auf europäischem und amerikanischem Boden ausgeht, nicht den Klischees und Ängsten entspricht welche über die Medien verbreitet werden. Wohlgemerkt, wird in den Berichten von Europol und FBI nicht die Zahl der Opfer berücksichtigt. Bei einem einzigen Anschlag kann die Opferzahl höher sein kann, als bei 400 anderen. Bei den wenigen islamistischem Anschlägen waren auch jedes mal hohe Opferzahlen zu beklagen.
Die Assoziation "Islam = Terror" ist aber laut Statistik schlicht und ergreifend unzutreffend. "Separatismus = Terror" wäre zutreffender.
