30 militants killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani security forces fought back an insurgent attack early Thursday killing 30 militants in Pakistan's tribal region, officials said.

One soldier was killed and four others were injured during the battle in the Chamarkan area of Mohmand Agency, one of seven district's in Pakistan's tribal region, according to Maqsood Ahmed Khan, a local official. The militants were targeting a military check point, officials said.
