TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran announced on Tuesday that holding bilateral negotiations with the US is not on its agenda, brushing off speculations that the two countries have been striving for an improvement in their relations.
"Negotiations with the US have never been an agenda and the issue is not on our agenda at present either," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman Parast told reporters in his weekly press conference here in Tehran.
The United States and Iran broke diplomatic relations in April 1980, after Iranian students seized the United States' espionage center at its embassy in Tehran. The two countries have had tense relations ever since, but have shown willingness to attend talks to help resolve regional issues, including security in Iraq. Yet, the two countries have avoided talks on bilateral issues for the last thirty years.
