CARACAS, Venezuela (CNN) -- Recovery officials removed the bodies Monday of a Venezuelan army general and 16 other who people died in a helicopter crash near the border with Colombia, a news agency reported.
In addition to Brig. Gen. Domingo Alberto Feneite Medina, 15 soldiers and a civilian died in Sunday's crash in western Venezuela, the state-run Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias said. Rescue efforts Sunday night were hampered by clouds and heavy rain, the news agency said.
