Angesichts des Falls um den in Antalya inhaftierten deutschen Schülers Marco W. wächst unter den Reiseveranstaltern laut "Focus" die Sorge um das Türkei-Geschäft. Die Dauer der Untersuchungshaft sei viel zu lang und schade dem Image des Landes, sagte der Chef des Türkei-Marktführers Öger Tours, Vural Öger. Er wolle nicht wissen, "was in Deutschland los ist, wenn der Junge Weihnachten noch in Haft ist". Der 17-jährige Schüler Marco aus Uelzen wird beschuldigt, im April eine 13-Jährige aus Großbritannien sexuell missbraucht zu haben.

According to a recent poll conducted in the Turkish Republic of northern Cyprus, 60 percent of Turkish Cypriots now favor a two-state solution that would separate them permanently from their Greek counterparts in the south of the island along the infamous Green Line border that carves the island in two. The findings are in contrast to the results of a referendum held three years ago in which just under 65 percent of Turkish Cypriots voted for an U.N.-backed peace plan in favor of reunification with the south.
