U.S. and EU are ready to recognize Kosovo independence

BERLIN: The United States and the European Union will recognize Kosovo if the Balkan province declares independence from Serbia in early December when last-ditch negotiations end, senior U.S. and European officials said Monday.

The officials spoke as the Serbs and Kosovo Albanians prepared to sit down this week at the United Nations for talks that diplomats have billed as part of a final effort to get agreement on the issue. It has turned into a confrontation between the West and Russia, which has threatened to veto any Security Council resolution approving independence for Kosovo.

Ich bin wirklich mal gespannt, ob die EU wirklich auch im Falle des Fehlens einer UN-Sicherheitsresolution einstimmig der Unabhängigkeit ds Kososvos zustimmen wird. Der Artikel nennt ja Griechenland, Zypern, die Slowakei und Rumänien als Wackelkandidaten.
Insgesamt sieht man hier, was undurchdachte Politikstrategien letztlich als Endresultate haben: Nämlich ein jahrzehntelanges Drinhängen und ne lange Misere.
Man muss dazu nochmal betonen: Der Ahtisaari-Plan bedeutet keine echte, volle Unabhängigkeit für das Kosovo. Es wird so ne Art EU-Dominium werden, so in der Art wie Australien, Neuseeland oder Südafrika zu Beginn des 20. jahrhunderts im Verhältnis zu ihrem kolonialen Mutterland Großbritannien: In gewisser Hinsicht formal unabhängig und weitgehend innerlich auch frei, aber immer noch mit umfangreichen Kontrollrechten. Die EU wird Polizei stellen und diverse Beamte und Verwaltungspersonal, die die Übersicht führen über das Treiben der Kosovolalbaner. Wobei, ich hab das in diesem Thread auch schon ausgeführt. Wie da auch schon gesagt, ich bin gespannt, wann dann mal endgültig die Relation zwischen Kosovolalbanern und EU-Überwachern eskalieren wird und man dann neue Unruhen wie 2004 haben wird.
