Officials: Marine MV-22B Crashes in Arctic Norway, Rescue Teams Unable to Reach Crash Site by Air
A U.S. Marine MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor with four aboard crashed on Friday during a training mission in Arctic Norway, local officials said.

The Osprey was reported missing after it failed to arrive at Norwegian Air Force Base Bodø by 6 p.m. (1 p.m. East Coast time), according to the Armed Forces and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre of Northern Norway.

The Osprey’s last known whereabouts were over the Saltfjellet mountains– a vast range about less than 100 miles south of the airbase, according to Norwegian officials.

Bislang ist der Vorfall noch nicht ganz geklärt, die Untersuchungen laufen noch, allerdings wird schlechtes Wetter möglicherweise mit in die Untersuchungen einbezogen. Die Osprey hat ja eine nicht ganz unumstrittene Vorgeschichte...

Late Sunday, the Marine Corps released the names of the four service members: Capt. Matthew Tomkiewicz of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Capt. Ross Reynolds of Leominster, Massachusetts; Gunnery Sgt. James Speedy of Cambridge, Ohio; and Cpl. Jacob Moore of Catlettsburg, Kentucky.

All four were assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, according to a statement released by the II Marine Expeditionary Force late Sunday. The Osprey has had a controversial development and operational history, with some arguing that it is unsafe. Between 1991 and 2006, while the aircraft was undergoing testing, there were four crashes resulting in 30 deaths. [...] The last fatal crash involving the aircraft was also in 2017 off the coast of Australia, in which three Marines were lost.

An Osprey usually carries a crew of three to five people, depending on the mission, but officials have yet to disclose the fate of the crew. Local television showed Navy helicopters in the area, where local and federal search-and-rescue crews had responded. The crash happened at about 12:25 p.m., 1st Lt. Duane Kampa, a 3rd MAW spokesman, said by phone from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif. The area around Glamis, northeast of the Navy’s air facility at El Centro and northwest of Yuma, Ariz., is a sandy, desert area that’s popular with offroaders. [...]

The mishap is the second serious one involving a Marine Corps MV-22B this year. In March, an MV-22B crashed in Norway during a training exercise that killed four Marines.

A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a P-63 Kingcobra aircraft have collided at the Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Dallas airshow at the Dallas Executive Airport near Dallas on Nov. 12, 2022. No reports of possible casualties have surfaced yet.

According to video posted online and a report that surfaced on The Kansas City Star and distributed by the Associate Press, “Emergency crews were responding to the scene at the Commemorative Air Force Wings Over Dallas show at the Dallas Executive Airport”.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that a Boeing B-17 and a Bell P-63 collided and crashed at approximately 1:20 PM local time during Saturday’s airshow. According to the show’s website, the November 11, 12, & 13, 2022 show at Dallas Executive Airport is the “Nation’s Premiere World War II Airshow”. Immediately following reports of the accident, the show’s official website was down. Wenn man sich die Videos ansieht, fragt man sich schon, wie das passieren konnte. Die P-63 kommt beinahe gerade von Backbord achtern und leicht überhöht heran, ca. im 30 Grad Winkel. Das war keine unvorhersehbare Annäherung, der Pilot muss die B-17 klar gesehen haben. Aber vielleicht hat ihn die Sonne geblendet und er hat Distanz überschätzt? Tragisch nicht nur wegen der mutmaßlich sechs Toten, sondern auch weil zwei unersetzliche Warbirds verloren gingen...

Ja, sowas kann durchaus vorkommen, zwar nicht oft, aber es kann passieren, dass sich ein Flugzeug verselbstständigt. In diesem Zusammenhang vielleicht auch ganz interessant ist der "Kornfeld-Bomber" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornfield_Bomber).

Ich pack's mal hier rein:

Bei einem Übungsflug in Frankreich ist ein Militärhubschrauber vom Typ Tiger abgestürzt. An Bord waren zwei Piloten aus Nordhessen. Sie hatten Glück im Unglück.

Die Maschine war am Mittwoch während eines Ausbildungsflugs in eine Hochspannungsleitung geraten, wie die Deutsche Presse-Agentur berichtete.

Das war vermutlich eine teure Bruchlandung. Zwar ist das Bild etwas unscharf, aber mir scheint es so, als wie wenn die vordere Rumpfsektion zumindest angebrochen ist bzw. ein Riss durch den Rumpf rund zehn Meter hinter dem Cockpit verläuft. Das sieht mir dann schon sehr nach einem konstruktiven Totalverlust aus...

The aircraft, assigned to the Whidbey Island, Wash.-based “Skinny Dragons” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 4″ landed at 1:59 p.m. local Hawaii time and ended up in shallow water just off the coast. The air station’s main runway runs in a northeast-to-southwest direction.

“At approximately 2 p.m. local (Hawaii), a U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon overshot the runway on landing at Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, and ended up in nearby water,” reads a statement from U.S. 3rd Fleet.
“All personnel safely evacuated the aircraft. The crew, assigned to Whidbey Island, Wash.-based squadron VP-4 ‘Skinny Dragons,” were on a detachment in support of maritime homeland defense.” [...]

A Bell Boeing CV-22 Osprey of the US Air Force (USAF) has crashed in Japanese waters. In a statement later on 29 November US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) said the CV-22B Osprey from the 353rd Special Operations Wing was involved in the “mishap”. The aircraft was “performing a routine training mission off the shore of Yakushima Island, Japan, with eight airmen on board,” the AFSOC statement said, adding that the aircraft had taken off from Yokota Air Base.

According to AFSOC, the crew's condition was “unknown” as of 0030 h local time on 30 November. “Emergency personnel are on scene conducting search-and-rescue operations. The cause of the mishap is currently unknown,” AFSOC said. [...]

Bei einem verheerenden Flugzeugunglück im südkoreanischen Muan kommen wohl fast alle 181 Menschen an Bord ums Leben. Videoaufnahmen zeigen, wie die Boeing 737-8AS ohne Räder über die Landebahn rast, mit hohem Tempo an einem Zaun zerschellt und sofort in einem Feuerball aufgeht. Ursache soll ein Vogelschlag gewesen sein.
