Italienisches Heer - Quintus Fabius - 28.04.2015

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SugMATu4mQk/VT8oFSrJV6I/AAAAAAABHt8/DgHC8SPp9yI/s1600/page0000007.jpg">http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SugMATu4mQk/V ... 000007.jpg</a><!-- m -->

Re: Italienisches Heer - Quintus Fabius - 30.04.2015

Zitat:On the funding front, the procurement of 381 armored vehicles has also been approved by Italy's parliamentary defense commission. The Freccia armored vehicles, built by an all-Italian consortium of Iveco and Finmeccanica unit Oto Melara, will equip an Army brigade, which will add to an existing brigade that has already been equipped with Freccias thanks to a previous order of 249 vehicles.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iveco_Superav">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iveco_Superav</a><!-- m -->

Zitat:The new document states that the Army currently has 11 brigades, 3,800 combat vehicles, 7,300 support vehicles, 226 helicopters and 103,000 military personnel

Zitat:At the end of the current military restructuring, the Army will have just 9 brigades, 90,000 military personnel, 7,000 civilian personnel, and by 2018, a 40 percent reduction in infrastructure.

The document stresses the need for the Army to become more "dual" — ready to take on tasks during civilian emergencies and disasters.

Zitat:Delivery of the first batch of Freccia 8x8 armoured fighting vehicles will be completed by the end of the year, with the exception of 26 vehicles.

So far 160 have been delivered – 126 of which are of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle, 36 anti-tank variants and eight mortar carriers.

According to Iveco-Oto Melara all 160 are operational with the Italian Army’s 82nd Reginment Torino, based in Apulia. The total order for 248 vehicles including: 172 IFVs, 36 anti-tank, 20 C2 and 21 mortar carring vehicles, was placed with CIO – an consortium of Iveco and Oto Melara – in December 2007.

That leaves 88 remaining, however the company also told Shephard that eight of the mortar carrier and 18 C2 variant vehicles will not be delivered this year, so 52 units are expected to handed over by the end of 2015.

A second batch of 381 vehicles was ordered by Italy in 2014. Iveco-Oto Melara said in a statement: ‘Parliament approved the 2nd Brigade but we are still waiting for the complete funding. We expect a first order for 30 IFV, to be delivered within the year end.’

The breakdown of vehicles includes: 163 IFV, 120 explorer (reconnaissance), 40 recovery, 36 anti-tank, 14 mortar carrier and eight C2.

The IFV variant is fitted with a HITFIST Plus turret armed with an Oerlikon 25mm dual-feed KBA cannon and 7.62mm co-axial MG.

The Explorer reconnaissance vehicles, also called VBM (Veicolo Blindato Medio), still have the HITFIST but are equipped with enhanced ISTAR payload. One type is configured to control UAVs and the other UGVs.

Meanwhile, the anti-tank version is equipped with the Rafael Spike long-range ATGM mounted on the side of the turret.

Zitat:IVECO launches Centauro II tank destroyer

Zitat:CIO unveiled its new Centauro II 8x8 tank destroyer armed with a 120 mm main gun at Eurosatory 2016 in Paris.

The new vehicle has been designed for the Italian Army, which is planning to buy 136 examples to equip nine cavalry units.

Speaking at Eurosatory on 14 June, Roberto Cortesi, the president of CIO, said that the new vehicle offered improved mobility, improved protection, networking and firepower over its predecessor, the 30-year-old Centauro.

Centauro II is designed for aggressive reconnaissance in force, with its mobility allowing it to rapidly deploy/evade, and its firepower allowing for the engagement of any enemy at maximum ranges.

The CIO consortium comprises IVECO and Oto Melara (now Leonardo), which has built more than 1,700 armoured vehicles for the Italian Army, including all its heavy- and medium-weight armour.

The Centauro II has been designed to fit Italian Army requirements for a vehicle of no more than 30 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW), a power-to-weight ratio of 24 hp/tonne (compared with 17 for its predecessor), a maximum road speed of more than 100 km/h, a range of 800 km, and higher ballistic protection that its predecessor.

Centauro II is armed with a 120 mm/45 calibre gun fitted with a semi-automatic loading system, a coaxial 7.62x51 mm machine gun and a Hitrole L remote weapon station (armed with anything from a 7.62 mm machine gun to a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher). The main gun offers a step-change in performance over the previous Centauro, which was armed with a 105/52 main gun, and is able to fire any NATO-qualified 120 mm smoothbore ammunition, including programmable rounds. The new gun has greater range, accuracy, and firepower than its predecessor. The Centauro II's new turret offers a fire-on-the-move capability, something not offered by the original Centauro. The 120/45 gun is an evolution of the 120/44 gun from the Ariete main battle tank, but has been optimised for low recoil, including the installation of a pepperpot muzzlebreak and other features that reduce the recoil force from 45 tonnes in the Ariete to 25 tonnes in the Centauro II.

Re: Italienisches Heer - Quintus Fabius - 22.06.2016

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.janes.com/article/61434/eurosatory-2016-iveco-defence-vehicles-unveil-new-generation-lmv">http://www.janes.com/article/61434/euro ... ration-lmv</a><!-- m -->

Zitat:Iveco Defence Vehicles unveil new generation LMV

Zitat:While the LMV 2 is physically similar to the current export vehicle, it is essentially a new platform with few common parts.

Feedback has shown that customers are now requiring not only greater volume and payload but also more electrical power for the increasing amount of electronic subsystems being installed on the platform.

According to Iveco Defence Vehicles their latest LMV 2 provides increased performance, greater reliability,....

RE: Italienisches Heer - Quintus Fabius - 05.01.2021

RE: Italienisches Heer - Quintus Fabius - 09.02.2021

RE: Italienisches Heer - Schneemann - 01.02.2023

Zitat:IAV 2023: Italy to procure VBA amphibious vehicles for army at end of decade

Italy will procure Veicoli Blindati Anfibi (VBA) 8×8 amphibious armoured vehicles for the Italian Army at the end of the decade, Janes learnt at Defence iQ's International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2023 conference [...]. Italy's Directorate of Land Armaments signed a contract with Iveco Defence Vehicles (IDV) on 22 December 2022 for 36 VBA amphibious armoured vehicles for the Italian Navy's San Marco naval infantry brigade. The VBA contract for the Italian Navy is part of an effort by Italy to replace the service's amphibious vehicles with the aim of improving its sea projection capabilities.

An Italian Army official told Janes on 25 January that his service would procure the VBA in 2028 as an amphibious enabler, with more variants than the Italian Navy's combat vehicle version. The Italian Army's AAV7s that the VBA will replace exist in reconnaissance, command and information, recovery, as well as infantry vehicle variants, according to Janes World Armies.
