Und was soll er dagegenhalten? Es interessiert überhaupt nicht das Russland dagegen ist. Das sind sie immer und ändert nie etwas.

Mehr Waffen/bessere Waffen an Assad liefern?

Was bekommt Assad noch nicht? Er hat so wie ich das sehe kein Ausrüstungsproblem, er kriegt nicht die Quantität ins Feld um überall aufzuräumen wo er aufräumen müsste. Deswegen hat ihm die Hisbollah mit frischen Truppen auch so helfen können.
Ich denke nicht das Russland hier noch mehr reinbuttern kann das sich on the ground mehr in Richtung Assad bewegt. Und die Lieferung komplexerer Waffensysteme mit denen er auch die USA ärgern könnte dauert doch einfach zu lange als das es relevant wäre.

Die Infanterieausrüstung der Syrer ist doch absoluter Schrott. Schrottreife AKs, kaum/schlechte Schutzwesten, keine Optiken für Gewehre usw usw usw.

Gemessen an unserem High Tech Zeugs sicherlich. Nur ist es seit jeher ein Irrtum zu glauben das dieses tolle Zeugs im Gefecht einen echten Mehrwert bietet wenn Kampfmoral oder Training nicht stimmt.
Assads Truppen haben kein Problem sich gegen die Rebellen durchzusetzen. Den Rebellen ist es nirgendwo gelungen konzentrierten Angriffen der Regierungstruppen längere Zeit standzuhalten. Assad hat allein das Problem das er seine Kräfte nicht gleichzeitig in der Tiefe aufstellen und konzentrieren kann. Er hat zu wenig loyale, verwendungsfähige Verbände und die Rebellen auf breiter Front anzugehen. Entsprechend die Schwerpunktbildungen die wir gesehen haben. Die Ausrüstung ist nicht das Problem.

Dennoch denke ich, dass sich die Regierungstruppen quantiativ auf Dauer durchsetzen werden,
vorausgesetzt der Status Quo wird nicht durch ein militärisches Eingreifen von Außen drastisch geändert. Die Aufständischen bluten langsam aber sicher aus, ihre lebendige Wehrkraft erschöpft
sich zunehmend. Die Verluste der Regierungstruppen sind signifikant geringer und die Milizen der Alawiten gewinnen zunehmend an Kampfkraft und Erfahrung.

Stück für Stück werden die Regierungstruppen stärker, so mein Eindruck.

das ist doch der wirkliche Grund für die Entscheidung, die Rebellen mit entsprechenden Infanterie-Waffen auszurüsten - bis das Gleichgewicht wieder hergestellt ist

Die Amerikaner werden in jedem Fall mehr als genug Schiffe und Flugzeuge aus der Portokasse abstellen können, um eine solche Mission erfolgreich durchführen können. Sie brauchen vor allem einen "vermarktbaren" Vorwand und die Aussicht einer vermeintlichen Kontrolle über die Implikationen zu ihren Gunsten. Davon hängt es doch eigentlich ab.
